Lot Description

Tompkins Die Stage 1/4, Rea et al. Die State a. Warmly patinated mauve-gray surfaces also exhibit mottled highlights of steel-olive and, at the borders, golden-apricot iridescence. A smartly impressed, sharply to fully defined example with abundant luster in a softly frosted texture.<p>The 1831 Browning-2 variety shares its obverse with B-3, but the reverse is not seen in any other pairing. As with its identically dated B-1 counterpart, this variety is readily obtainable in lower grades, but surprisingly difficult to locate with the solid and attractive Choice AU preservation offered here.
