Lot Description

Evenly toned in reddish-gray, this is a desirable mid-grade San Francisco Mint quarter from the 1860s. A heavily circulated issue, survivors from the 48,000-piece mintage for the 1867-S are scarce to rare in all grades, so much so that Larry Briggs (1991) assigns an impressive Rarity-5+ rating even at the Fine and VF grade levels.
