Exquisite platinum-white surfaces are fully untoned to allow ready appreciation of a boldly cameoed finish. The dies also imparted razor sharp striking detail that calls forth even the most trivial design elements. The JD-1 is the most frequently encountered of the three known die marriages of this Proof issue with 3,200 coins delivered. This is a well produced issue, more so that many earlier date Proof three-cent nickels from the 1870s, but with the stunning quality and exceptional eye appeal it offers the present specimen is very rare from a condition standpoint.
