- Description du lot
- An absolutely stunning pattern! Similar to the design used in 1869, the J-989 shows Liberty with her hair tied in a bun, with lower flowing locks at the shoulder. A ribbon with LIBERTY and a single star at the front ties her hair back. The reverse has 50 CENTS in the center and is surrounded by a wreath of oak and laurel with 1870 below and STANDARD SILVER above. Struck in copper with a reeded edge, examples are also known in silver and aluminum. All types come with either reeded or plain edges, and all are rare with fewer than a half dozen known per variant. Pristine surfaces are incredibly reflective with stunning clarity. Original coppery-red color is enhanced by light violet and blue overtones. Fully struck in razor sharp detail, this piece is quite literally unimprovable!
