A reported mintage of 1,000 pieces conceals the true rarity of the Proof 1861 Liberty Seated dime. With many examples failing to sell to contemporary collectors and eventually melted or released into circulation, this issue is scarce to rare in all grades. The offered specimen is a deeply toned Choice Proof with more vivid cobalt blue undertones evident as the surfaces rotate under good lighting.
