1862-S Seated Liberty Quarter. Briggs 1-A. EF-45 (NGC). Very scarce and conditionally challenging as an issue, the 1862-S Seated quarter (just 67,000 pieces produced) merits a Rarity-5+ rating in EF/AU according to Larry Briggs (<em>The Comprehensive Encyclopedia of United States Liberty Seated Quarters</em>, 1991). With uncommon sharpness of detail in a survivor of this issue, and no substantial detractions, this mostly silver-gray example is sure to appeal to the specialist. Light olive-gold iridescence is confined to the peripheries.
