1849 Moffat & Co. $5 Gold. K-4. Rarity-5. VG-8 (PCGS). OGH. A respectable example that holds great appeal for the budget-minded Territorial gold collector, this Moffat & Co. Five presents very well for having seen considerable circulation. Wear is heavy, yet evenly distributed, and a few short cuts in the lower-left obverse field are the only individually mentionable abrasions. Rich khaki-gray color is enhanced by a splashes of more vivid reddish-copper tinting here and there at the rims. The date is clear and all other major devices are at least outlined in definition, although the obverse portrait displays some evidence of the soft strike for which the type is known.
