Description du lot
Since the design change for the Buffalo nickel in 1913 concerned only the reverse, the Mint was able to economize and use the same obverse die for both the Type I and Type II Proofs of the year. The latter has a mintage of 1,514 pieces and, while most are extant (John W. Dannreuther, 2023, states 1,200 or more), precious few at the certified Gem level can match the quality or eye appeal of this premium specimen. With beautiful satin surfaces enhanced by delicate champagne-gold iridescence.
