"1779" (Circa 1780) Rhode Island Ship Medal. Betts-563, W-1740. URS-9. Wreath Below Ship. Brass. EF-45 BN (NGC). Deep golden brown verging on chocolate with an enormous amount of eye appeal. The details are sharp for the grade with essentially full cannon ports on Howe's flagship, and with the <em>vlugtende </em>(fleeing) Americans rushing across the Newport, Rhode Island region fairly sharp as well. Further, the surfaces are fairly smooth and absolutely mark-free upon magnified scrutiny. A truly lovely example of this popular issue.
