- A popular and eagerly sought die pairing for its VERMONTS spelling in the obverse legend, but one which is challenging to find nice. That offered here is a pleasant exception to the norm with minimal granularity to original chestnut-brown surfaces. Some of the roughness is native to the planchet, most notably on the obverse at and below the sunface and on the reverse in a horizontally bisecting band just above center. Most major design elements are boldly to sharply rendered, and many are quite crisp. Centering is just a bit off with the obverse border through the bottoms of the date digits and tops of the letters ICA at lower right, reverse border resting atop the letters in STELLA at lower left. Minimally circulated and free of significant marks, most collectors would be hard pressed to do significantly better than this in an RR-2 Vermont. Early obverse die state with only a thin, faint crack through the right side of the digit 8 in the date to the base of the plow.
