Lot Description

The obverse of the 1837 Newcomb-5 attribution was earlier used in the N-4 pairing and the crack that formed in striking that variety is stronger now, equivalent to Noyes Die State D/C. Golden-tan highlights accent the rich chocolate-brown color that paints this lovely middle date cent. Minor laminations in the planchet are noted at star 4 and Liberty's hair bun, though the surfaces are otherwise smooth and without notable post-Mint blemishes.
