Lot Description

Tompkins Die Stage 5/5, Rea et al. Die State e. Richly mottled toning in steel-blue and copper russet with areas of lighter iridescent gold. Draped Bust quarters are notorious for softness of strike through the centers, and this piece is no exception. On the other hand it is only lightly circulated with faint traces of frosty mint luster on surfaces that reveal only wispy handling marks. Late obverse die state with a fairly bold, arcing crack from rim to rim at the letter Y in LIBERTY that has formed a retained cud.
