Description du lot
Pretty honey-gold surfaces are colorfully toned at the peripheries with abundant reddish-purple tinting. The boldly defined features feature a sharp date and mintmark on the reverse. Remarkably smooth and overall abrasion free in a lightly circulated survivor of this key date issue, there is much to recommend this coin to the discerning Southern gold specialist. First year of this new denomination with the designs by Mint Engraver James B. Longacre. Mintage of 24,000 pieces from New Orleans that year, and struck at time of great excitement in America as the gold fields in California were well into yielding their bounty.
