Half dollar coinage remained limited in 1802, the Mint trying to balance contemporary bullion depositors' desire for silver dollars against the need for small denomination coins for use in everyday commerce. Only 29,890 half dollars were delivered from 1802-dated dies in three warrants dated January 26, December 8 and December 10. Survivors are among the most elusive in the Draped Bust, Heraldic Eagle series. Tompkins Die Stage 1/1.
