- Description du lot
- 1850-C Gold Dollar. Winter Variety 1 (3-C), the only known dies. AU-55 (PCGS). CAC. Impressively sharp in strike by Charlotte Mint standards, this '50-C dollar is also praiseworthy due to a lack of all but trivial wear. Wispy handling marks do not include any of singular concern, and handsome khaki-orange color further contributes to the premium quality status of this Choice AU survivor. The 1850-C has an original mintage of just 6,966 pieces -- the second lowest of any C-mint gold dollar -- and it vies with the 1859-C as the second rarest issue of the type from this Southern branch mint.
