Lot Description

Tompkins Die Stage 1/3, Rea et al. Die State b. <strong>Tompkins Plate Coin</strong>. Soft silver gray centers give way to blushes of more iridescent toning at the periphieries, the most vivid and varied colors lining the lower left reverse border. Smooth and inviting at the Choice EF grade level with hints of original mint frost still engaging many of the design elements. Typical of this Browning number, the reverse is rotated approximately 15 degrees clockwise from normal coin alignment.<p><strong>Steve M. Tompkins Commentary:</strong> One of several coins that came from the Logan sale. Russ was a giant among the bust collecting crowd and an early mentor for me when I joined the BHNC more than 30 years ago. Up until now I have resisted selling any of the coins that came from his collection, but I hope other collectors can now enjoy owning them as much as I did.
