Lot 399 1854 N-12 R2 Repunched 1 PCGS graded MS65 Brown, CAC Approved.Frosty medium steel brown with at least 5% of the original mint color remaining visible on the obverse but only peeps of mint red showing on the reverse. The surfaces are satiny but the luster is subdued by a thin layer of natural oxidation. Sharply struck and the only notable mark is a tiny planchet flake in the field close off the chin (as struck). E-MDS, die state a late, with a dash below the base of the 1 (from a misplaced 1). A minor low spot (caused by grease on the die) covers the neck. Our grade is MS62+, CC#6 for the variety in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 1 finer in 66.
