Probable Finest Known Nelson-14 Voce Populi Halfpenny 1760 Hibernia-Voce Populi Halfpenny. Zelinka 16-O, Nelson-14, W-13960. Rarity-6. P Below Bust. AU-55. 132.8 grains. Lustrous dark chocolate brown with frosty surfaces and faded mint color around obverse legends and devices. An absolutely gorgeous specimen of this rare variety, finer than the Ryder-Boyd-Ford coin, the Norweb-McGrath coin, the Laird Park-Zelinka (Taylor) coin, and the Nelson-Lasser-Colonial Williamsburg coin. Some very fine natural granularity, as struck, is noted at central obverse and near the obverse rim at 10 o'clock. Both sides are ideally centered and well struck, and we note just a very short scratch left of the P below bust and a tiny nick behind the eye as post-striking flaws. Craige called this "UNC with some traces of red on obv. letters!" An exciting new addition to the Voce Populi Condition Census, one of the most distinctive varieties in the series in previously unknown condition. PCGS# 268. Provenance: From the Ted L. Craige Collection.
