The 23-S Monroe has a generous mintage of 274,077, commemorating the centennial of the Monroe Doctrine. Though common in lower Mint State grades, this issue's low relief design led to striking issues and they are very rare at this lofty state of preservation, extremely so any finer. This beautiful MS66+ was clearly stored in an old album, where the peripheries picked up a sensational, somewhat mottled rainbow toning. There are few stray marks and ticks, likely "slide marks" imparted from the ancient album and all that keeps this borderline SUPERB GEM from CAC approval. The eye appeal is undeniably sensational and a true delight to behold. PCGS 20, NGC 13. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $4,500. This attractive coin will sell for a strong bid.
