Lot Description

A boldly struck and softly frosted example with splashes of intense steel-blue and reddish-russet toning that find greatest expression along the upper right obverse border and around much of the reverse periphery. Struck on the cusp of autumn in 1838, 466,000 1838 Liberty Seated quarters were produced. The premier issue of this classic design, and one of only three for the No Drapery <em>Guide Book</em> type, this issue has long been popular with both Liberty Seated specialists and first type collectors.
