Lot Description

1836 Capped Bust Half Dollar. Lettered Edge. O-103. Rarity-4. MS-65 (NGC). Readily identifiable by the recut 1 in the date with a small stand under it. Mostly brilliant with pale lilac tones visible on each side. Well struck for the type, particularly toward the centers, the surfaces are as distraction-free as one should demand for the Gem grade level. The frosty luster is full with modest, yet appreciable cartwheel visual effects evident as the coin rotates under a light. Based on Overton's Condition Census listing for this scarcer die marriage (65; 63; 60; 58; 55), this example is one of the finest survivors of the 1836 O-103 Half Dollar.
