Lot Description

Vividly colored in pinkish-rose and blanketed in smooth, strong, frosty mint luster. Both sides are struck with precision, the obverse sharp in detail down to the lowest feathers in the Naive American's headdress. Although much rarer than the 1909-D in an absolute sense, the 1909 is still common enough to be considered a type coin in the Indian half eagle series. The type as a whole is conditionally rare in Gem Mint State, however, and the coin we offer here represents one of the finest '09-P fives to pass through one of our sales in recent months.
