1855-C Liberty Half Eagle. Winter Variety 1 (23-J), the only known dies. Die State I. AU-58 (NGC). Boldly-to-sharply defined, this minimally worn example is also partially lustrous with some evidence of a modestly semi-prooflike finish. Handsome medium-orange color, with few abrasions that we deem worthy of individual attention. The 1855-C is a scarcer Charlotte Mint Five with an extant population of probably fewer than 300 coins from a mintage of 39,789 pieces. Survivors are conditionally rare at and above the Choice AU grade level.
