Smooth satin surfaces exhibit subtle pale gold and smoky-silver highlights. Sharply struck throughout, as well, and flush with eye appeal. Although scarce in an absolute sense, the 1894-S is one of the more readily obtainable early date Barber half dollars in Mint State. The present example, therefore, would do equally well in a high grade type set or advanced collection of this challenging series.
