Lot Description

A VERY RARE Shield nickel variety, and this is the FINEST graded! A frosty, satiny mint bloom shines around boldly struck devices. The overdate is seen under magnification. The obverse die has a number of die cracks which might explain the rarity of this variety. Light gold, lilac, and rose hues can be seen when rotated in a light. A few light lines and ticks can be seen under a glass, but are fine for the assigned grade. PCGS 1, NGC 1. An NGC-graded example sold for $18,800 in the 2017 FUN auction.
