Description du lot
And Then... Collection. McCloskey 1-A. The "D" of the denomination shifts a bit left of the end of the stem above. AU-58 represents something of a "sweet spot" - not so rare as to be unaffordable, but on the cusp of MS-60 where prices rise quickly and steeply for the type. A number of tiny contact marks pepper both obverse and reverse, but for a gold coin of the era, they are not so numerous as is often seen. Sharpness for the reverse appears even and strong, while the obverse was struck slightly unevenly such that the leftmost stars lack absolute articulation, while the rightmost stars do include fully divided segments.
