1840-D Liberty Head Half Eagle. Tall D. AU-50 (PCGS). This appealing half eagle retains plenty of bold striking detail and lively satin luster, and is a very nice AU coin. Even bright honey-gold patina enhances the visual appearance. Typical survivors from the mintage of 22,896 pieces are in lower grades through EF-40, often with significant impairments from heavy commercial use.
