Losbeschreibung: 151.2 grains. Struck on a finely granular planchet, with a few short scratches on the horse's head. All major design elements are clear, wear is moderate yet even, and there are no other marks or blemishes to report. The strike is off center to 6 o'clock on the obverse, 12:30 on the reverse, but only the border denticulation in those areas is affected, and to no great detriment. Rich, handsome color in a blend of light mahogany and warmer olive-brown delivers strong eye appeal. Although described by the May 1984 Stack's cataloger as, "The best Mr. Bareford could find until he located the superb example in the previous lot," this coin is a respectable example of the Maris 21-N dies in its own right and would also do nicely in a circulated type set.
