- 1794 Talbot, Allum & Lee Cent / John Howard Mule. Fuld Mule-5, W-8720. Rarity-4. Lettered Edge. AU-53 (PCGS). Dusky ruddy-brown surfaces are bluntly struck at Howard's bust and over the lower half of the standing figure, typical of the type, although the detail is considerably sharper elsewhere. There are no detracting marks, both sides pleasingly smooth in hand despite a touch of microscopic roughness to the texture. A member of the Royal Society, John Howard was instrumental in social reform in England, including improvement of the conditions in prisons.
