Description du lot
Ex San Diego Collection, as noted on the insert. This is a truly GORGEOUS, ultra high grade example tied for SECOND FINEST GRADED for the date at PCGS, with just a single MS68 graded higher. Tied with the Eliasberg-Pogue MS66+ at the top of the Condition Census for this Rarity-3 variety, this coin has a fantastic look! Razor sharp details are very crisp and boldly defined from an exacting blow from the dies. A strong satiny, lustrous sheen gives life to a dramatic and colorful array. Starting with a rich cobalt at the peripheries the colors meld and fuse with steely-silver and dusky-tangerine rose colors at the centers. The color has that classic "pull away" effect around the stars and letters, attesting to the originality. The eye appeal is incredible! PCGS 3, NGC 0. We have had the honor of selling two MS66+ examples in the last couple of years. The Eliasberg-Pogue O-116 sold in our September 2021 Regency Auction as part of the Chicago Collection, sold for $49,938 and in September 2022, we sold the Perfection Collection O-117 also PCGS MS66+ CAC for a world record $64,625. The current PCGS Price Guide is listed at $60,000 for the date and $37,500 for the O=116 variety. We have no doubt this beautiful GEM will likewise bring a very strong bid. Just a single example, graded MS68, has graded higher at PCGS, a coin that would no doubt bring six figures if it were to come to market. Good luck. Cert. Number 46263206 PCGS # 39638
