Lot Description

Die State I. A handsome example, and as an example struck from Die State I, it has a crisper strike with generally boldly defined devices. A solid AU example, both sides retain some of the mint luster, which is typically granular in texture. There are relatively few marks of consequence visible to the naked eye, and the in hand appearance is impressively smooth. From a mintage of 31,847 half eagles produced at the Charlotte Mint in 1859, most survivors grade no finer than EF-45, confirming the desirability of this bold About Uncirculated example.
