Lot Description

Popular as a type, any early "with motto" double-eagle will prove challenging in grades above extremely-fine. NGC calls this 1866 AU-50, which is appropriate given the churning flowline effect within the fields of each side. Very little detail has actually been lost to circulation, as the eagle's neck shows minor wear on the reverse, and each obverse star still retains internal definition.
