Description du lot
Tompkins Die Stage 2/2, Rea et al. Die State P. Dusky silver gray surfaces with blended olive-gold that finds greatest expression in the left obverse field. Much frosty luster remains to shine forth nicely as the coin dips into a light. Lightly struck in the centers, as expected for the type, but there is only light wear, and the detail is appreciably bolder toward the borders. A touch of glossiness to the texture and a faint scratch in the upper right obverse field are noted for accuracy.<p>Representing the only use of this obverse die, and the first of two uses of this reverse die, the Browning-5 is one of the scarcer die marriages of the 1806-dated quarter issue. The NorthEast Collection specimen is tied for CC#8 in the 2010 Rea-Peterson-Karoleff-Kovach census.
