1804 Draped Bust Half Cent. C-7. Rarity-4+. AU-55 BN (NGC). Rich steely-copper patina to both sides, the surfaces reveal a tinge of deep rose at isolated viewing angles. This is a hard, tight and satiny piece with no blemishes of note and a pleasingly smooth appearance in hand. Well centered in strike, a short stint in active circulation has left plenty of bold to sharp detail throughout the design. Cohen-7 is a scarcer die pairing of the Spiked Chin Guide Bookvariety, and it is also among the more conditionally challenging with examples grading finer than VF particularly significant in today's market.
