1880 Gold Dollar. MS-65 (NGC). Scarce as a date with a tiny mintage of 1,600 pieces for circulation, but enough survived to form date collections within reason, perhaps 300 to 500 pieces. Bright yellow gold and lustrous, with extensive die lapping reverse on the wreath which polished off the uppermost portions of the design, a feature sometimes seen on this design. PCGS# 7581.
