Lot Description

1871-CC Liberty Half Eagle. Good-4 (PCGS). Intermingled olive-gold and crimson toning. Rarely seen with such extensive wear; most examples are in the Fine to VF grade range. Perhaps this was someone's lucky pocket piece. Scarce and eagerly sought in all grades. Only 20,770 examples were minted, and all but a tiny proportion were likely reclaimed into bullion decades ago. PCGS has certified the issue on just 111 occassions in all grades combined.
