Mintage: 63,500. The Scotsman Cataloger's Choice Awardcan apply to any coin which strikes the fancy, regardless of grade or aesthetics (necessarily), and this Charlotte piece absolutely fits the bill. For the toning enthusiast, some remarkably dense, deeply saturated mulberry-rouge patina drapes the upper and lower fields of the obverse, while the reverse displays utterly astonishing, rich thick denim-blue with crimson undertones. It's simply a devastating effect for those not used to seeing toned gold, and that it should have developed over a scarcer Charlotte piece makes the allure all that prominent. And finally, in the face of everything else, each side has been rather meticulously struck, displaying uncommon sharpness for branch-mint gold. A fabulous coin that perhaps must be seen to be fully appreciated.
