1849-O Liberty Head Eagle. AU-53 (NGC). Boldly defined for a minimally circulated early date New Orleans Mint eagle, this pleasing AU also exhibits warm and even deep orange patina. From a modest mintage of only 23,900 pieces, and as with virtually every other issue of gold coin struck in New Orleans, wear and tear in commerce was the norm and not the exception.
