Deep charcoal-copper and warmer medium brown patina to both sides, the obverse overall lighter in appearance than the reverse. The former color is associated with ancient surface scale that is not out of place in a moderately to heavily circulated New Jersey. The strike is off center to upper left obverse, lower left reverse, with the peripheral features in those areas partially to full off the flan, or otherwise softly defined. Detail is bolder elsewhere, the diagnostics of the 78-dd attribution are clearly seen, although of the fox all that can be discerned are faint traces of its legs. There are no significant marks.
