Crazy Animal Collection. Judd-608 (R.4). Superficially resembling the contemporary 3-cent nickel that had already been circulating for a few years, the pattern cents have a noticeably smaller diameter, and obviously, the reverse denomination expresses "I" instead of "III". Glassy smooth on the obverse, the reverse has an interesting patchy texture that suggests an incompletely prepared flan. Bold cameo effects take full advantage of brilliant silvery mirrors behind frothy devices.
