Lot Description
1893-CC Liberty Head Eagle. Winter 1-A, the only known dies. AU-53 (NGC). CAC. Enticing golden-rose surfaces retain both sharp striking detail and much of the original satin mint finish. Some 14,000 eagles were struck from only one known pair of dies in the last year the Carson City Mint was in operation. As with many of this Western mint's output, the coins entered circulation promptly and very few were saved in Mint State. At the higher About Uncirculated levels, the issue is challenging to locate, leaving only a select few AU examples for numismatists to contemplate. Provenance: From the Birdwatcher Type Set, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit The Nature Conservancy. PCGS# 8726. NGC ID: 2672. Click here for certification details from NGC.
