1870 Octagonal 25 Cents. BG-789. Rarity-4. MS-63 (PCGS). OGH--Second Generation. Gold Nugget. One of the classics of the series for the preposterous rendering of Liberty on the obverse with the thick or Goofy head with a prominent jaw, mouth too high with her upper lip touching her nose. Double struck as often seen, with slight rotation noted between strikes. These planchets had silver cores that are gold plated. Produced by an unknown maker during Period II (1858-1882), and one of the most comical and deservedly popular issues of this entire series.
