- 1871 Pattern Gold Dollar. Judd-1161, Pollock-1303. Rarity-8. Copper. Reeded Edge. Proof-65 BN (PCGS).
Struck from the same dies as the regular issue 1871 gold dollar. This wonderfully original specimen exhibits iridescent reddish-gold, apricot and powder blue undertones to dominant copper-rose patina. Watery semi-reflective fields support smartly impressed, fully struck devices. Although we are fortunate to be offering two examples of Judd-1161 in this sale, the rarity of this variety should not be underestimated. Indeed, the website uspatterns.comestimates that only a half dozen or so examples of Judd-1161 are extant. A lovely and significant Gem that is sure to catch the eye of specialists.
PCGS Population: just 1 in all grades in the BN category.
