- 1839-D Classic Quarter Eagle. EF-40 (PCGS). Alone among Dahlonega Mint quarter eagles of the Classic design type, the popularity of the 1839-D in numismatic circles knows few bounds. It is extremely popular as a mintmarked type coin and, as the premiere D-mint quarter eagle, survivors also enjoy strong demand among Southern gold specialists. From a mintage of just 13,674 pieces comes this conditionally scarce EF, a coin awash in richly original khaki-gold patina. Boldly defined in most areas, with no abrasions that we deem significant in a lightly circulated Dahlonega Mint gold coin. Appealing coin.
