Lot Description

This lightly toned example reveals delicate powder blue, pale lilac and reddish-apricot highlights as the surfaces rotate under a light. Boldly struck in most areas, both sides are lustrous with a soft satin texture. With a much lower mintage of 759,500 pieces (vs. 2,982,000 coins for the 1854), the 1855 is the scarcer Philadelphia Mint issue of the Arrows, No Motto Liberty Seated half dollar type. This near-Gem Uncirculated example certified by PCGS holds particular appeal for better date type purposes.
