Description du lot
1847 Liberty Half Eagle. MS-60 (PCGS). Deeply lustrous orange-gold with exceptional eye appeal for the grade; we've seen coins of lesser aesthetic quality that were awarded finer grades by the third-party services. Raised die lumps on Liberty's cheek and jawline. Though a sizeable mintage of 915,981 1847-dated half eagles were produced in Philadelphia, just seven examples of the date have been called Mint State by PCGS, none of those above MS-62 -- evidently the vast majority of this issue saw prolonged use in commerce or was otherwise lost to today's collecting community.
