1943-S Washington Quarter. FS-401. Goiter Variety. MS-65 (PCGS). A fully brilliant and snowy example of this intriguing variety, with a nickname more often associated with New Jersey coppers than Washington quarters. The obverse die shows dramatic failure, resulting in a swollen area beneath Washington's chin. Nicely defined and without notable abrasions. Scarce in all grade, PCGS has certified just 31 examples and this piece is among the finest few. Only 2 grade higher through MS-67.
