- FROM THE DR. STEPHEN DAVIDSON COLLECTION An essentially GEM-quality late die state N-2, with the rim break from 1:00 to 3:30. What a lovely and highly lustrous example. The surfaces are varied between soft, steely-brown overtones with a wealth of original red that blazes around the sharply struck up devices. The surfaces show a stray mark and toning fleck or two, noted for accuracy, but these have limited impact on the wonderfully original eye appeal. PCGS 17, NGC 10, CAC 10. PCGS has graded just 2 in MS64+ RB. This coin sold for $3,055 in January 2014, as part of the Oakes Collection. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $3,750. A great type coin, the first year of the Matron Head large cent type, and the only denomination struck in 1816! Cert. Number 28173084 PCGS # 1592
