Confirming the Mint's practice during the era of releasing unsold Proof coins into commercial channels, this 1872 silver dollar is clearly attributed to the year's Proof issue by the OC-P1 die pairing. A die line that crosses near the top of recessed stripe 6 in the shield confirms the obverse die, while a pair of stronger die lines between the olive branch and the eagle's right talon identifies this reverse.
