- 1870 Shield Nickel. Proof-66 (PCGS). CAC. One of the finest certified of this elusive proof issue, and graced by pastel iridescence on the obverse and reverse that incorporates a number of hues. The strike is sharp and the surfaces are sweet as there are only the minutest traces of carbon specks. Minor lintmarks are noted right of the 5, and several of the letters are ""open"" in the legend as the master hub had worn down creating reverse dies for this series. One of the most appealing examples for the specialist.
